PROFILE SIGNALS
Automattic is the company behind some of the internet's most widely used open-source and web publishing tools, including WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Tumblr, Jetpack, Day One, Pocket Casts, and Beeper. Their products power over 40% of all websites globally and serve millions of creators, merchants, and developers worldwide. WooCommerce alone is one of the world's leading e-commerce platforms, making Automattic a significant player in retail tech infrastructure. As a fully distributed, remote-first company since 2005 with 1,442 employees across 81 countries, Automattic offers an async, autonomous work culture focused on impact over hours — making it a distinctive employer in the tech and commerce space.
Remote-First
Work from anywhere — we've been fully distributed since 2005, long before it was trendy.
Async Communication
~70% of projects run on P2 blogs, meaning fewer interruptions and more deep work on your schedule.
Flexible Hours
Work during the hours you choose — we care about impact, not time spent at a desk.
Team Retreats
Expect 3–4 weeks of travel per year — team meetups have taken Automatticians from Budapest to Buenos Aires.
Open Source Culture
The vast majority of our work is GPL-licensed — contribute to open source as part of your day job.
Paid Hiring Trial
Every hiring process includes a paid trial project — get compensated for the real work you do before you even join.
DEI Commitment
Active Employee Resource Groups, a People Lab learning series, and a Disability Confident Committed designation.
Cross-Cultural Team
1,442 Automatticians across 81 countries speaking 107 languages — genuinely global by design.
Coworking Spaces
Drop-in offices in NoHo NYC and Mission SF whenever you want a change of scenery or a face-to-face.
